All rides are open to all HoECC members and are listed in the Events calendar on the right hand side of the website. ALL times in the Events listings are for the RIDE DEPARTURE
The rides on different days tend to have different speeds and distances ... nobody gets left behind! Rides are broadly described as follows:
Wednesdays - 2 rides:
Traditional Wednesday - every week - approximate distances are - Summer 50 - 60 miles, Winter 40 - 50 miles (with lunch at 1215-1230) - the distance from the start to lunch is usually between 25 and 30 miles - average speed 12 - 13.5mph.
Unless the weather is very bad we stop for a short "roadside 11s" break of about 10 minutes (bad weather stops may be at cafes but these are the exception as the time for a serving a large group can escalate and impact on riding time)
Approximately every 7 weeks the Traditional Wednesday ride is in two parts (Loop rides) in the morning and afternoon - the objective being to offer a shorter ride for potential new riders and the option for regular riders to ride in the morning or the afternoon, or both.
There are also occasional "car assist" rides in the Summer months where we drive to, and start from another meet point in order to extend the area where we ride.
Further & Faster - every week - a ride which is just that - further and faster than the Traditional Wednesday rides with distances up 80-90 miles. The rides have a very brief roadside 11s stop and pub lunch.
Approximately 25 miles to ride out for a 1600 tea stop (where the ride usually terminates) - some riders make their own way home from the tea stop, while others often visit a pub on the way back to the Earlswood area, thus making a total ride distance of 35-50 miles - average speed 13.5 – 15.0 mph
All day - 60-80 miles with a pub lunch – average speed 13 – 15mph
Casual/Social - approximately 25 miles at a relaxed pace and ideal for newcomers to the club or cycling.
