19dec18 Run to the Griffin: Capt. Tim
13 started the ride, a 44 mile loop out to the Griffin (a club favourite), on a day with close to the shortest daylight of the year. Surprisingly the weather was almost spring like. The journey to Berkswell and 11's went well, 3 peeled off at this point leaving 10 to continue to lunch. Crossing the dual carriageway at Pink Green was more hazardous than usual; there were complaints from the peleton about some of the extremely filthy lanes chosen by the captain after Fillongly; and a fatal navigational error was avoided by a timely shout from Clive. But in spite off all of it we arrived at the Lunch venue just 5 mins later than expected.
The food was on the table with seconds of us all getting a drink and sitting down, faster service you could not have, the food was excellent and the choice and quality of the beer well up to the expected standard (although the captain's opinion was that looking past the top 2 beers on the list would have been sacrilege ... 'Theakstons Old Peculiar' & 'Butty Bach').
Then we came back, people peeling off at various points, the 2 remaining at Earlswood cycled past the RLE and decided that a post ride drink would be acceptable at Xmas; arriving at the the Coach and Horses at 15:45. 55 miles for me.
