Yesterday The Doctor prescribed fantastic weather and a trip to the Cotwolds for the F&F ride. Leading for the first time Chris showed us his handwritten route sheet, however nobody but Chris could read it
As we rode across the Avon at Hampton Lucy the eight starters became nine with Stratford Bob tagging on the back of our 16mph average train. Judith was due to join us also but didn't due to feeling unwell. Some wag commented about having to split the group if it got much bigger!
The pace soon dropped after our 11s stop in Walton village as the hills began. Not one rider walked across the bridge at Fulready Ford.....but then the crossing was dry anyhow.
Following the major climb at Ilmington our pace picked up again and we were at the Ebrington Arms in plenty of time to order and pay £9 for a ham sandwich with cuppa-soup.
The route back was the more tradition track via Welford with the Doctor getting us to the Coach and Horses in plenty of time for an October alfresco beer. If fact Chris did so well he is certain to get the job again! 82 miles.
